Our poor boy Oda get’s a deep dish of double betrayal!
Reveals and plot twists ahead, this episode certainly took the story for a whirlwind, even though some of the things were quite clear as day. On the other hand, I’m beating myself up for not being able to see that final reveal. The head of the church is Oda’s brother?! Of course that was going to be the case. I like how they’re making Oda’s trauma’s the centerfold regarding the endgame of this story.
This time around we got a little bit of backstory into Oda and the murder of his brother, maybe to be able to live deep inside the dream abyss far beyond the reaches of the dreamers, you have to be dead, or at least within a method of living and dying. I’m sure we’re going to get more info about this next episode, but in the meantime speculation is all we got. Although Murase seems to be able to go to the dream abyss just fine and come back as if nothing had happened. I don’t know the specifics and this show is sort of wack, but hey, it’s still an enjoyable experience. Personally, I really liked how the fight was choreographed between Murase and Oda in this episode, there were some genuinely great direction shots here and there. But does D_Cide really know where it’s going, or is it making things as it goes along?
I really don’t know what’s the case on this one, but so far the story has been progressing nicely and we did get some good episodes here and there, even though some of them just felt like baiting. But that’s a topic I’ve already discussed in that particular episode. Like Persona, D_Cide also suffers from queer baiting and representation. But again – that’s a topic I will not open it’s can of worms once more, if you’re interested in what I’ve said, I urge you to go read that post.
Nevertheless, I feel things are about to finally get interesting in this convoluted mess of a finale, Oda is going to have a little reunion with his brother, and Oda’s brother is going to have to explain the whole why I became evil thing. Because Oda really looked up to him, Oda’s brother was Oda’s light, he’s the reason why he got into kickboxing.
Maybe Oda’s brother started from the bottom in the church and now has made his way to the top. Maybe he is being brainwashed, and can’t control what he’s doing. On the other hand, if they don’t revive the old ones, then I’m going to be a little disappointed, of course, the Knocker Up’s manage to beat them and everything, I’m not asking for a sad ending, I want a happy one. But I also want the characters to struggle a bit. Otherwise, there’s no drama or tension, and the whole series is just going to fall flat. Which I really don’t want to happen. The Old Ones – sorry I mean Evil Ones, is what the series has been leading up to, and like any good story, the moment our characters have to struggle the most has dawned upon us. So actually seeing the Evil Ones in flesh incarnate is astonishingly important. We need to see them fight against the Knocker Ups, and we need to see the cast win, otherwise, it’s all for naught.
On the other hand, it was really interesting that they had to take Somium drops to be able to enter into the deeper layer of the dream. All rules are out the window at this point, and if they become dreamers things could get ugly, thankfully Rena has also taken a drop but was not able to enter into the depths of the dream. As Jessica said, they are all part of someone else’s master plan, and maybe this was part of the plan all along. Who knows really, this series is bonkers at this point, it has lost its rails and I feel the ending could be a massive disappointment or just another Saturday. It could be a game-changer, or it could be something. Just that – something. Who knows, but I’m certainly looking forward to the finale of this series. It hasn’t exactly been a wild ride so far, but overall it’s enjoyable. I could see myself really getting into it and binge-watching. That is if I wasn’t already blogging it for RC. My opinion would probably be largely the same.
Overall thanks for reading, and I hope you come back next week for another episode of D_Cide Traumerei: The Animation.
